Bratislava, September 12, 2017 --- City University of Seattle and VSM are working together with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to upgrade the educational facility in Bratislava, Slovakia, to bring it to a standard appropriate for the high quality of programs being offered in Slovakia, ensuring a continued and growing program to address the need for a Western-style free market business education in Slovakia. The grant was made by ASHA (American Schools and Hospitals Abroad), a sub-agency of USAID which makes grants to overseas institutions that were started and/or supported, and work cooperatively with a United States institution.
The project, which is launching this week, was made possible by the generous support of the U.S. government. The grant of $500,000 (500.000 USD) will be used for the reconstruction of bathrooms, upgrade of the ventilation and heating system, elevators, installation of ecological LED lighting system, renovation of the entrance of the building as well as paint work and new floorings of the school areas.
As VSM Rector prof. Ing. Edita Hekelová, PhD. stated during the project initiation ceremony: „we believe that the reconstruction of the school will create a better learning environment for our students and improved teaching environment for our faculty“. The project initiation ceremony which was held at the school premises on September 12, 2017 was attended by H.E. Adam Sterling, the U.S. Ambassador to Slovakia, Mr. Griffin Rozell, Cultural Attaché of the U.S. Embassy in Slovakia, prof. Ing. Edita Hekelová, Rector of VSM, Dr. Jan Rebro, Chairman of the Board of Governors of VSM, Dr. David Griffin, City University of Seattle, Mgr. Ing. Michal Radosa, Vice-Mayor of Bratislava-Petržalka City District, students, faculty and staff of VSM and other distinguished guests. During his speech Ambassador Sterling noted: “The City University of Seattle program, implemented in cooperation with Vysoka skola manazmentu, is the only permanent American university program present in Slovakia. I meet frequently meet successful graduates of this school, working in influential and important positions in Slovakia.”
Founded in 1999, Vysoka skola manazmentu is the first private institution of higher education in Slovakia. It offers accredited programs in business and management at undergraduate, graduate and PhD. levels and with City University of Seattle offers joint degrees at undergraduate (Bc./BSBA) and graduate (Mgr./MBA) levels.
